The Problem
In low-income communities, approximately 25% of the pupils go to school on an empty stomach and 70% of them eat imbalanced meals every day. This problem causes a loss of interest and concentration in classes, an inability to understand simple logic, and an extremely low-intelligence quotient. In Ijebu-Imusin community, there is an intrinsic factor standing as a rigid barrier hindering every child from attaining an excellent education. This factor was unmasked as we conducted research into the eating habits of our pupils in one of the schools in the community; Moslem Primary School, Esure, Ijebu-Imusin, Ogun State. The research showed that a high percentage of the pupils frequently miss breakfast because their parents are unable to provide one for them.We also discovered that a high percentage of them consume only low-nutrient food which has created a nutrient gap that interferes with their concentration during classes and affects their critical thinking ability and IQ level.Below are the 7 core issues that the problem poses to the community.
A high number of malnourished learners.
Low cognitive abilities of the learners.
Poor retention capacity of learners in literacy, numeracy, and science tests.
Extremely Low body mass index of learners.
Learners are less motivated to participate in all class/school activities
Poor learners' attentiveness
A high number of out-of-school children
Our impact journey just got started!
